The Apostle's Creed I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son Our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,  born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,  was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into Hell;  the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into Heaven,  and is seated at the right hand of God, the Father almighty;  from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. St. Martin De Porres RCIA (2024 to 2026)

Thank you for enrolling in the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) program at St. Martin De Porres in 2024. RCIA is the program through which the church welcomes, educates and equips those persons seeking full communion in the Catholic Faith through the sacraments of initiation: Baptism, Confirmation, and the Holy Eucharist.


RCIA is a program of discernment and instruction in which you will be introduced to the beliefs and practices of the Catholic Faith. The program spans a little under 3 years. During the preparation process those journeying through RCIA are called candidates.

There is a signup fee required that will cover the cost of a workbook and any instructional materials. (The fee is being finalized and will be communicated to you shortly.)

Classes will be held every Tuesday evening at 7:00 PM unless otherwise arranged and communicated by the Catechist (facilitator).

Requirements

  • The candidate must have a sponsor. Nobody will be allowed to continue in the program without a sponsor. Your sponsor will be required to attend the class with you at least once each quarter (Dates to be determined.)
  • The candidate is expected to have a book to write in, pen as well as a Bible.  Please bring your own if you can.
  • The candidate will need a rosary at some point during the program. You are encouraged to get your own as soon as possible. 

Assessments

Assessment is on-going for the duration of the program. RCIA Classes are not just lessons, but often take the form of discussions around some article of faith. Candidates are expected to prepare adequately for such discussions by diligently carrying out those tasks assigned to them, as well as participate meaningfully in the discussions.

Class attendance is compulsory. If the candidate cannot attend a class for any reason whatsoever (sickness, work, family emergency), he or she should notify the class via WhatsApp. 

Mass Attendance is compulsory, and the at every class the candidate will be asked if they attended mass on the previous Sunday or Saturday.

Formal Assessment takes the form of written tests or assignments, the first of which will be written early in September.  (The most important thing is class and mass attendance). Candidates who are habitually absent, will be asked to leave.
